Lately, it feels like the world is crumbling under the weight of injustice, pain, and hate. The list of human suffering is long and heartbreaking. And yet, those with the greatest ability to bring about change seem only concerned with protecting their own power, comfort, and wealth. And all of this plays out against the backdrop of a planet that’s literally being trashed by over-consumption.
In the face of all this, I often feel an overwhelming need to respond—to push back against the darkness using art. When I’m working on a piece, it feels like an act of resistance, a form of protest. I see myself as part of a larger movement, a collective effort to keep the light alive in systems that seem intent on snuffing it out. There’s a passionate intensity in those moments of creation, a drive that fuels me to pour my frustrations and hopes onto each canvas. The colors, the words, the symbols—they’re all tools in this fight against inequity and oppression.
Creating protest art isn’t a personal journey; it’s a statement, a stand against the status quo. My work isn’t just about the struggle, though. It’s also a reminder that humanity has the unlimited capacity to create wonderful, meaningful, beautiful things. We can choose to build a world filled with peace, kindness, and growth. This is what I want to put out into the world—a reminder that we can be better, that we can care for each other, and that we can create something beautiful in the face of all this ugliness.
I know I’m just one person, unable and unwilling to accept a world of inequity and suffering, but I also know that I’m not the only person. There are millions of us who want change, who are working every day to create it, one small action at a time. We’re out here, resisting in our own ways, whether through art, activism, or simply choosing kindness in a world that often values the opposite. And together, we can’t be stopped.
